After a year and a half without stadium shows, one of 2020’s most anticipated line-ups decided that it was time to end the drought in 2021. Green Day, Fall Out Boy, and Weezer hit the road last summer for 21 shows starting in Texas this past July, blazing the trail for a return to post-pandemic life.
The Hella Mega Tour included a number of effects across all three headlining sets, turning up the temperature with each change-over. Weezer took the stage first, deploying brightly colored beachballs into the pit during “Island in the Sun” and rounding out their set with a blast of confetti as the band jogged off stage. Fall Out Boy didn’t waste any time showing audiences their wide array of flame effects – including 2 custom-built flaming instruments for Pete Wentz (bass) and Patrick Stump (vocal/piano). The band’s elaborately designed show also included a few pyro cues ranging from flash bangs to short-duration gerbs.
Each night finished with a classic set from Green Day, who charged through their numerous hits with a powerful selection of pyrotechnics. The punk rockers also added G-Flames to their set, with several being modified for flight on lighting trusses during “Hitchin A Ride.”
We’re proud to have been a part of the first official stadium tour of 2021 and the biggest tour since the shutdown of our industry. Despite the challenges of working during a global pandemic, our team stepped up to the plate and executed an incredible leg of shows — and we are hella excited to see this tour go to Europe.
